The next meeting of the Oakley DirtRiders, September 6th, will be an important meeting. It will be the last meeting of the 2004-2005 year. That means: There will be nominations for officers to be elected at the October meeting. It will be the first opportunity for members that have already attended 4 meetings and performed 6 hours of work to renew their membership for the upcoming year. It has to be the 4th meeting a member has attended to be able to renew their membership in October.
Meeting attendance and work hour records are posted in the clubhouse and on the website. Any discrepancies should be brought to the immediate attention of the club president, Steve Arteman.
To eliminate confusion:
If Sept. is your 4th meeting - you will have to wait until Oct. to renew.
If you need work time - you have until Oct. 2nd to fulfill this requirement.
Work records will be collected Sunday evening Oct 2nd and recorded before the Meeting Oct. 4th.
A membership status chart is posted in the clubhouse.
Names highlighted in GREEN have met all requirements for renewal.
Names highlighted in Orange cannot meet the requirements for renewal.
If your name is highlighted ORANGE and you want to renew your membership, you should contact the Club President immediately for a review of your records. (Some have been corrected already)
If you renew in Sept., work time recorded after that will be credited towards the 2005-2006 year.
The next FUN RIDE will be Aug. 21st. There will be a WORK DAY Aug. 20th. There will be a change in the FUN RIDE format. The course will be set up Fri. or Sat. before the Sunday event. Riders may start riding as early as 10am and will be allowed to ride till 3pm. Each rider may start when they want and stop when they want, but must follow the marked course. Guest riders will have to quit riding at 3pm, but members may continue to ride as long as they want. After 3pm staying on the marked course is not required.
No one volunteered to set up the Aug. Fun Ride course. The Club President, will set it up on Fri.Aug 19th. Anyone willing to assist should be there Fri. morning about 7:00am. Jim Weaver and Ed Catlin may set up the pasture area while Steve Arteman sets up the woods.
Several other events are coming up soon:
Sat. Sept. 10th - Trials school at the Oakley Clubgrounds
This will be the 4th Annual Ryan Young Trials Training School. This school is primarily intended for trials riders, but anyone may participate and learn very helpful skills. The school starts at 9:00am and will end about 4:00pm.
Open riding will be permitted on Saturday, but please avoid riding near where the school is being conducted.
At 5:00pm, Ryan Young will perform a Trials Demo. Ryan (a six time national champion) can do some awesome tricks with a motorcycle and he enjoys putting on a show.
Sun. Sept. 11th - Observed Trials at the Oakley Clubgrounds
This combination District 17 / MITA AMA sanctioned event will start at 11:00am and end about 4:00pm. Open riding will not be allowed during this event!
20 volunteers are needed to work the Trials on the 11th. Members and family members may record up to 3 hours of work time per person for helping with this event. Volunteers need to be there from 10:30am until about 3:00pm. Sign up in the clubhouse and/or contact Wayne Thais. wthais@direcway.com or 217-687-2824
Oct. 2nd - District 17 Hare Scramble at Oakford
Nov. 13th - Charity Hare Scramble at the Oakley Clubgrounds
Workers are needed to help with the district race at Oakford. Contact Jay Hall or John Gepford.
Workers will also be needed for the Charity Race.
A BIG "CONGRATULATIONS" TO JAY HALL and DANIEL JANUS
On qualifying and being selected to participate in the International Six Day Enduro. The event is being held in Slovakia. (see the included flyer) Support Daniel and Jay by attending the Fund Raiser and make a donation. Donations may also be made directly to Dan or Jay, or at Hall's cycles in Springfield, or to the Club President, Steve Arteman. Although Dan Janus is not a member of the DirtRiders, he competes in District 17 events and has participated in our club's Annual Charity Race.
Tom Robinson (groundskeeper) says the weather has been so dry that ruts are not much of a problem. Work needing to be done mostly consists of, cutting fallen trees and branches, repairs to the snow fence and cleaning the entrance to the various drain pipes scattered throughout the property.
Jim Weaver informed everyone that changes have been made to the MX track. The track has been extended and now has a longer "straight-a-way". Use caution when using the track and entering the track. The entrance is now in the middle of the straight instead at a corner. A fence needs to be constructed to keep the fast traffic away from those entering the track. Also, raffic control needs to be made at the NW corner of the track. Just be careful and watch out for the other guy until all changes are complete!
Ride safe and have fun.
