President Steve Arteman's Opening Remarks:
Be sure and sign the attendance sheet each meeting if you want to get credit for the meeting. Please make sure that your AMA number is correct as well as your email address if you have one. Please provide us with an email address so that we can email the newsletter to you rather than sending it out by US Post Office, it saves the club several dollars by using email rather than USPS. If your email address is highlighted it means that there was a problem and it bounced, please provide us with the correct address.

The Mike Piper Memorial Team Hare Scramble Race:
This event is for the benefit of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Macon County and will be held on Sunday, November 13th. This will be the 13th Charity Event the club has conducted and the 9th event to benefit BB/BS. This event has generated about $30,000 in cash and toys for charitable organizations.
Saturday November 12th, will be a SPECIAL workday. The club will be closed for riding all day Saturday. Volunteers are needed to assist with the Charity Race set-up. Ruts may need to be filled; trees may need trimmed or removed, trash barrels need to be emptied and more, in preparation for this BIG event. John Gepford will be in charge of this work day, follow the arrows to John and he will let you what needs to be done.
The Charity Race is an AMA sanctioned event. Membership in the AMA is required to ride as a competitor in this race. You may get an AMA membership on the day of the race.
Fees to participate:
Gate Fee = $0.00 FREE entrance to the property
Entry Fee = $10.00 plus a toy valued at $10 or more
AMA Membership = $39.00 per year (renewable)
A 50/50 drawing may be conducted (to be determined on the day of the race) where the winner will receive 50% of ticket sales and Big Bros/Big Sis will receive the other 50%. Of course donations will be gladly accepted also.
There will be a 50+ team class
Donations from local businesses are being solicited to offset the expenses of promoting this event. A business that makes a donation will receive recognition in print and possibly TV coverage. WCIA and WAND TV both covered the event last year and coverage was featured on the 6 and 10 o'clock news. John has produced a flyer to be presented to prospective sponsors when soliciting donations.
If you can help set-up the event or solicit donations, contact John Gepford by email: HSRacerd17@aol.com or phone: 217-424-8950
Dirtriders Sponsored events for 2006:
The dates for the two club sponsored Hare Scrambles will be Jun 11th and October 1st, they will be held at the same location as last year (off site) The 2006 Observed Trials will be held on September the 10th with a riding school on the 9th.
Jay Hall has been re-elected as District 17 Hare Scrambles Director:
Jay took some time and shared about his time at the SSDT, this was one of the most difficult SSDT's in recent years and Jay was one of the ones who finished and received a bronze medal for his efforts. Congratulations to Jay.
Rumor has it that Jay has been nominated for the position of District 17 Congressman to replace the current representative who is retiring.
Additional items:
NOISE!
Noise is a serious issue and is something that we need to address, the AMA has recently lowered its noise requirement to 96dba from 112dba, this is a significant reduction and we need to make sure that we adhere to this level if we want to keep peace with our neighbors. Jay Hall has a decibel meter and if requested would bring it to the club grounds so that we can check our sound levels. This is an important issue and needs to be addressed by anyone who thinks they are in violation.
Senate Bill 251
This bill if passed makes landowners liable for the actions of anyone who is on their property; if someone is hurt on their land the landowner can be sued.
Saint Louis Supercross Feb 18th
Chris Smith is going to get a block of seats reserved; anyone who wants one of the seats will need to contact Chris. More info will be posted on the club website.
