President Steve Arteman's Opening Remarks:

The meeting, held at the Oreana firehouse, was called to order at 7:05 pm by the Club President, Steve Arteman.

Steve stated that the only old business that he was aware of was the "Noise" issue that was discussed at the last meeting.

Here is the context of that issue from the last newsletter:

NOISE!
John Gepford brought up the noise issue again. This was discussed at the last meeting and will be discussed again. People are buying land surrounding our little piece of heaven and encroaching on our "right of way". It appears that there is development taking place across the river that borders the North side of the Club Grounds.

Although we were here first, if we disturb our neighbors it could lead to the demise of the club. It happens around farm communities all the time. Someone with a high paying job buys a farm, builds a big expensive "dream house" and then complains that the hog farm down the road (that has been there for 50 years) is a nuisance because of the smell and that it's presence is hurting their real estate value. They then try to get the farmer, whose livelihood and business is "farming", to cease operation and clean up. Never mind that the farmer has 30 years and hundreds of thousands of dollars invested in an operation started by his family many years earlier; the new rich neighbors see him as a nuisance.

We will probably be seen as a nuisance if we make too much noise. For some people, we might be a nuisance just by being here. We all agree that the current sound decibel limit needs to be revised. The discussion is what level do we want to adopt and how we are going to enforce it. After much discussion it was decided to put together an official motion to change the existing club rule number 10 to read:

Effective June 1st 2006 all vehicles that are operated on the Dirtriders Club grounds must meet the current AMA MX sound level requirements. Vehicles exceeding this sound level will not be allowed to be operated.

Jay Hall thought that the current MX sound level requirement was 96 dba. The current rule Number 10 which this would replace reads:

(10) The acceptable Club sound level is 110 decibels at 20" on the "A" scale. Vehicles exceeding this sound level will not be allowed to be operated.

Since this is a rule change it is being presented to the membership in the newsletter and will be voted on during the March meeting.
