Texas Moto!!
We left Mike Wade's house at 5:30 on Friday and drove darn near straight through.
We took a couple hour break at the Texas Information Center, just across the river
into Texas. Here are a couple pictures of the stop.
Jamison and Rod have a little Captain in them
Yes, I'm a dork. You try and think of something to do in front of this thing.
I really think this picture is funny. Texans might disagree, I suppose.
I'm sure we would have been shot on sight by a Texas Ranger if we got caught.
We got there about noon, unwound for a bit, then we decided to take a nice nap.
Yeah, that felt good. Then we got cleaned up and hit downtown Austin.
We saw the State Capital, Sixth Street (crazy, and LOTS of pretty girls, many stories there).
and we shot some pool and stopped on the way home at Mt Bonnell, the highest point in Austin.
We drove my uncle's car, which has a Garmin GPS, you just punch in the address and go.
This was my 5th trip to Austin, 3 times on street bike trips (yes, it's a VERY long ride)
and once with the family, so I know my way around pretty good.
Rod's favorite quote and moment happened as we're climbing around on the top of
Mt Bonnell in the dark, a very treacherous area.
It's a neat spot, with some Stonehenge-looking stuff and a heck of a view, the city is lit up all below you.
Lots of couples go up there to neck. SOME of us thought we'd get a bad rep,
that everyone would think we're queer (did I mention I learned how homophobic some of us are on this trip?)
So anyway, I'm walking along and notice how rocky it is and look over my shoulder and shout,
"Watch your step!", then immediately trip and fall. Rod could NOT stop laughing.
So we called it a night, we had a big day scheduled for Sunday.
